DoggoTranslator ("the app") uses AI to interpret your dog's body language from photos and to voice a playful "translation." This page explains what data the app collects, what it does with that data, and the choices you have.
What we collect
Account information. To use the app you create an account with an email address and password, or sign in with Google or Apple. We store your email, a securely hashed password (never the password itself), and, for Google/Apple sign-in, the identifier that provider returns. This lets you keep your dogs across devices.
Photos you upload. Each photo is sent to Anthropic's Claude API for analysis. When a translation is saved to your dog's journal, or posted to the public Wall of Fame, a compressed copy of the photo and the analysis result are stored on our servers. Photos from one-off analyses that you do not save are not retained after the response is returned.
Voice recordings. If you use the "teach how they talk" or voice-cloning features, a recording of your voice is uploaded to our text-to-speech provider (ElevenLabs) to learn a speaking style or create a synthetic voice for your dog. See "Third parties" below. You can delete a taught or cloned voice at any time, which also deletes it from the provider.
Dog profile information. Names, breeds, sex, interests and personality traits, birthdays (if you add them), avatar thumbnails, and visual description hints from past group photos, linked to your account.
Translation journal entries. Each saved translation stores the analysis result, a compressed photo, and a timestamp. Entries can be deleted individually.
Wall of Fame content. If you post to the public Wall of Fame, the photo, translation, your dog's name/avatar, and any comments you make are visible to other users. Reactions, comments, follows, and the resulting notifications are stored to run these social features.
Push notifications. If you opt in to notifications, we store the browser push subscription needed to deliver them. You can turn them off at any time.
Sync codes. If you move your dogs to another device, a short code tied to your account is stored for up to 15 minutes, then deleted.
Optional feedback. If you rate a translation, the rating, an optional comment, the detected breed, and mood are stored to help improve the app.
What we do not collect
No analytics SDKs, advertising trackers, or third-party ad trackers.
No location data.
We do not sell or rent your personal data.
Third parties
Photos and analysis prompts are processed by Anthropic, Inc. via the Claude API. Translation text, and any voice recordings you provide for teaching or cloning a voice, are processed by ElevenLabs for text-to-speech and voice generation; generated audio is streamed back to your device. Google and Apple process sign-in when you choose those options. The app is hosted on Railway. We share with these providers only what is needed to deliver the feature you used.
Children's privacy
The app is intended for general audiences. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
Your choices
Delete your account. In the app footer, tap "Delete account" to permanently delete your account and all associated data: your dogs, journal entries, Wall of Fame posts and comments, follows, notifications, and any voice you taught or cloned (including its copy at our voice provider). This cannot be undone.
To remove a single dog, tap the trash button on the dog's profile card; the dog and its journal entries are deleted.
To delete a single journal entry, tap the trash icon next to that entry.
To remove a Wall of Fame post you made, delete it from the post's menu.
To stop push notifications, turn them off in the app or your browser/device settings.
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes, this page will be updated and the "last updated" date above will change.
